Baywood's Technical Communications Series, Jay R. Gould, Series Editor
ABOUT THE BOOK
Teachers of technical writing are frequently handicapped by a lack of
material to back up discussions in the classroom and in textbooks. Directions
in Technical Writing and Communication will help to overcome this weakness.
The articles have been selected from more than two hundred published
in The Journal of Technical Writing and Communication. In these
readings a number of principles are discussed in specific ways: first,
the question—what is technical writing? Once this has been established,
the reader is introduced to four aspects of the subject: reports, proposals,
professional papers, and presentations. Then the industrial writers take
over with their articles ranging through the practical: how to edit, and
how to prepare special kinds of communication. The book closes with ideas
from various sources on evaluation, readability, and motivation.
