W. K. Chow is the Chair Professor of Architectural Science and Fire Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has served as the Head of the Department of Building Services Engineering since 2009. He is also the Director of Research Centre for Fire Engineering at the University since 2000, and was the Leader of the former Area of Strength: Fire Safety Engineering from 2003 to 2011. He is the President of the Asia-Oceania Association for Fire Science and Technology since 2007; and was the Founding President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) - Hong Kong Chapter while establishing the Chapter in 2002. He was elected to be a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences in December 2012, and appointed as a Justice of the Peace by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with effect from 1 July 2013. He is a fellow of different professional societies including Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and SFPE.

Chow graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a first class honours BSc degree in 1977; and from Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. with a MSc degree in Teaching in 1979. He obtained his PhD degree in Computing Physics from the University of Hong Kong in 1983.

The series begins with four monographs dealing in areas of interest to fire protection engineers and others concerned with the solution of current problems in fire safety analysis and design. Each volume includes a number of papers which have appeared in JAFS and which have been written by world authorities in their respective fields of applied fire science.
